Oftnly privacy policy
- Everything you put in Oftnly stays on your phone. We have no servers and no accounts.
- No ads, no analytics, no tracking. We never see, sell or share your data.
- The optional AI message writer runs entirely on your phone.
What the app stores, and where
Oftnly keeps the following only in the app's private storage on your device:
- People you add: names, relation, what you call them, birthdays, anniversaries and other dates, phone number, email, Instagram and LinkedIn handles, notes and photos.
- Your activity in the app: which messages and cards you sent and when, reminder "Done" taps and check-ins, festival lists, the last few AI drafts (so a rewrite doesn't repeat itself), and your settings (your name and photo, language, reminder times).
- Sticker packs and cards you make, until you delete them.
None of this is sent to us or to anyone else by the app. If you have Android's own device backup turned on, Android may include the app's data in your Google account backup; that is handled by Google under your account settings.
Permissions
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Contacts | Only when you tap Import from contacts: reads names, birthdays, anniversaries, phone numbers, emails and photos of the contacts you pick, and copies them into the app on your phone. Nothing is uploaded. |
| Notifications | Birthday, anniversary, festival and keep-in-touch reminders. |
| Run at startup | Re-arms your reminders after the phone restarts. |
| Internet | Only to download the optional on-device AI model when you choose to (from Hugging Face, huggingface.co). No personal data is sent; like any download, Hugging Face sees your IP address under its own privacy policy. |
| Storage (Android 9 and older only) | Saving a card you made to your gallery. |
The AI message writer
If you download it, the AI model (Qwen2.5, Apache 2.0 licence) runs on your phone. Your notes, the details you add and its drafts never leave your device. If a draft is inappropriate you can tap Report; this opens your own email app with the draft filled in, and nothing is sent unless you press send.
Sharing you choose
When you send a message or share a card, video or sticker, the app hands it to the app you pick (for example WhatsApp, SMS, email or Instagram). What happens next is covered by that app's privacy policy.
Other services on your phone
The Cut-out feature uses Google Play services' on-device subject segmentation (ML Kit). The photo is processed on your phone; Google Play services may download its model and is covered by Google's privacy policy.
Backups
A backup file is made only when you tap Back up everything. It is encrypted with a password you choose (AES-256) and saved where you pick. We can't open it or recover the password.
Deleting your data
Remove a person, a sticker pack or a history entry in the app, or uninstall the app to delete everything it stored. Backup files you made are yours to delete.
Children
Oftnly is not directed at children under 13 and doesn't knowingly collect anything from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date.
